Kenja in the Community

Kenja in the Community is a facet of Kenja Communication training with a positive focus on community-based events. Volunteers use the benefits and skills developed through their Kenja communication training to work alongside ethical Australian community groups and event organisers in making a positive contribution to a range of community efforts.
Kenja in the Community (KIC) today has a credible and established history supporting Australian community-based ventures. This includes active involvement in Australian competitive sporting events and has seen Kenja regularly field teams in the annual Sydney Herald-Sun City to Surf, the Murray Marathon and many triathlons along the eastern seaboard.
KIC has a long and proud history with the RSPCA Million Paws Walk, providing both entertainment and organisational support for annual fundraising and awareness events. Each year KIC provides teams of people (including team leaders) for Clean Up Australia Day across a number of locations in New South Wales and Victoria. Also, over several years the annual Moomba Parade – a central focus of the Moomba festival in Melbourne - was supported by the organisational efforts of KIC volunteers.
KIC also fielded a team of Kenja-trained Olympians and support crew who worked with OATH (Olympic Athletes Together Honourably) organisers to run a sporting and cultural day for Indigenous children in La Perouse, NSW on the eve of the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games.
In 2006, KIC organisers were compelled to responding to the humanitarian crisis in Darfur. Inspired by Oxfam Australia’s approach to human needs and values and with the keen support of Federation Square management, helped organise and fundraise over $4,500 for Oxfam Australia’s relief effort in Darfur, Sudan with the Concert for Darfur: The Human Spirit United charity event.
